Local workbook processing

Compare Excel files offline when the workflow must stay under your control.

WorkbookLens CLI is a self-contained executable for repeatable workbook comparisons on Windows and Mac. After download, it needs no browser, account, Excel installation, or network connection.

One command

Put the comparison beside the process that needs it.

Windows PowerShell
.workbooklens.exe "C:Reportsefore.xlsx" "C:Reportsafter.xlsx" --html ".evidence
eport.html" --json ".evidence
eport.json"
macOS Terminal
./workbooklens "/Reports/before.xlsx" "/Reports/after.xlsx" --html "./evidence/report.html" --json "./evidence/report.json"

The command returns 0 when the selected workbook evidence is identical, 1 when differences are found, and 2 for an input or processing error. Scripts can respond to each outcome explicitly.

Where offline helps

Make workbook review part of the operating procedure.

01

Confidential models

Run the comparison on the machine or controlled runner where the files already live.

02

Scheduled exports

Compare each new report against an approved baseline and retain the result with the job.

03

Repeatable evidence

Use the same arguments and output paths every time instead of relying on a manual review ritual.

Browser or CLI

Start manually. Automate when the comparison becomes a control.

The online comparator is the fastest way to examine two files in front of you. Its comparison runs locally in a browser worker, and the workbook contents are not posted to the Node server.

The CLI is the better fit when the check is recurring, must run without an open page, needs exact report destinations, or should stop a job when an unexpected workbook change appears.

The CLI gives you

  • Self-contained Windows and Mac builds
  • Predictable process exit codes
  • Chosen HTML and JSON paths
  • Configurable limits for capable machines
