Workbook comparison

Find what changed.
Keep the files with you.

Compare two .xlsx or .xlsm workbooks without sending them to our server. Start instantly in the browser, then use the downloadable CLI when the comparison must run offline, in scripts, or in CI.

One comparison, two workflows

Use the browser for speed. Use the CLI for repeatability.

A focused workflow

From two versions to one reviewable answer.

1

Choose old and new

Select the baseline workbook and its revised version. “Choose” grants browser access to those files; it does not upload them.

2

Match the right rows

Compare cells by position, or identify a sheet and key column so inserted or reordered rows do not create a wall of false changes.

3

Review the evidence

Inspect added, removed and changed values or formulas, then download a self-contained HTML report or machine-readable JSON.

Privacy you can verify

Your workbook does not visit our server.

The comparison page uses locally hosted code and contains no advertising or third-party analytics. Your browser performs the workbook processing. When a comparison finishes, only its mode and change count are reported to this site for an operational Telegram notification; workbook names, paths, contents, and reports stay on your device.

LOCAL

Bytes stay on the device

Only the files you explicitly choose are read, in browser memory, for the current comparison.

SAFE

Macros are never executed

WorkbookLens reads workbook data and formula text. It does not run VBA or recalculate formulas.

OPEN

Reports download locally

HTML and JSON reports are generated with browser Blob downloads, not uploaded and returned by an API.

Useful when the question is “what moved?”

Built for revisions, exports and regression checks.

Finance

Review a revised client model

Find changed assumptions, values and formula text without placing confidential workbooks in a cloud comparison service.

Operations

Reconcile lists by stable ID

Match rows by SKU, account number or another key so sorting and inserted records do not drown out meaningful changes.

Engineering

Test generated Excel reports

Compare expected and actual workbooks, archive HTML/JSON evidence, and fail a pipeline when the export changes unexpectedly.

Focused by design

A precise comparison tool for dependable review.

WorkbookLens focuses on the workbook evidence teams use most: values, cached displayed values, formula text, cell types, sheet changes, and keyed-row comparison.

Questions before you compare

What customers usually need to know.

Does choosing a file upload it?

No. A browser file picker grants the page temporary access to that selected file. WorkbookLens does not call a comparison API or send its contents to the server.

Why pay when the browser version is free?

The CLI removes the manual browser step. It works in scripts, scheduled jobs and CI; returns reliable exit codes; writes reports to chosen paths; and can run fully offline after download.

Why does the Windows download not open a window?

It is a command-line program. Extract the ZIP, open PowerShell in that folder, and run .\workbooklens.exe "before.xlsx" "after.xlsx" --html ".\report.html".

Are formulas recalculated?

No. WorkbookLens compares stored formula text and cached workbook values. It does not execute macros or reproduce Excel's calculation engine.
