WorkbookLens CLI
The free browser version is designed for a person comparing two files now. The downloadable CLI is designed for a process that must run the same way tomorrow, on another machine, or without a browser.
Call one executable from PowerShell, shell scripts, task schedulers, GitHub Actions, or another CI system.
0 means identical, 1 means differences, and 2 means an input or processing error.
After download, the self-contained binary needs no account, browser, Excel installation, .NET installation, or network connection.
Choose exact HTML and JSON output paths, archive artifacts with a build, and retain evidence with the workflow that produced it.
The online edition protects browser memory with fixed limits. The CLI lets you raise --max-cells when the machine has the capacity.
Use the CLI on devices and company work controlled by the licensed person, with product updates included.
.\workbooklens.exe "C:\Reports\before.xlsx" "C:\Reports\after.xlsx" --html ".\report.html" --json ".\report.json"./workbooklens "/reports/before.xlsx" "/reports/after.xlsx" --html "./report.html" --json "./report.json"--keyed "Products:A"This compares logical rows using column A in the Products sheet, even when their physical row numbers changed.
It is a CLI, not a desktop GUI. Double-clicking the executable does not start a workbook window. Extract it, open a terminal in the folder, and supply two workbook paths. The included README walks through each platform.
WorkbookLens detects changes in values, cached formatted values, formula text, cell types, sheets and optionally keyed rows. It does not execute VBA, recalculate formulas, compare most cosmetic styles, merge versions, or open encrypted workbooks. Added and removed sheets are summarized rather than expanded cell by cell.
